DIGITAL LIBRARY RESOURCES

Our Digital Library computers provide free internet access as well as having a range of software (such as Microsoft Office 2010, Adobe Design Premium CS5.5, Adobe Reader X).

A free WiFi  service is available throughout the College building.

What else can the Digital library offer you?

● ClickView – the digital video storage. This digital media software solution enables schools to build a digital video storage library and allow teachers and students to watch high-quality educational videos from UK's leading content providers in the classroom without the need of AV equipment, DVDs or tapes. The ClickView player shortcut icon  you can find on all our School PC’s Desktop.

  ● Electronick book collection  – to access the CATS College e-book collection, please visit the platform https://www.dawsonera.com/ and sign in with the details below:

Books, already available (purchased) on the dawsonera platform, can be found under the “eBook Catalogue” tab.

● BFI Screen online – an online encyclopaedia of British film and television clips from the vast collections of the BFI National Archive, and several hours of recorded interviews with film and TV personalities. These clips (which are displayed – where available – on the right side of each film or TV programme's page) are supplemented by rich and authoritative contextual material by expert writers, specially commissioned for BFI Screenonline alongside thousands of stills, posters and press books. The site will interest not only to those wishing to explore the history of British film and television, but anyone concerned with Britain's social history as told in over a century's worth of moving images. The 4,000 films and TV titles available on the site date from the 1890s - the earliest years of cinema - to the 21st century.

The site also features the BFI Screenonline Education Zone, a free resource to help all subject teachers make the most out of moving image in the classroom.

Please note that access to moving image and audio content will only be possible within our institution network.

● THE DAY – a daily online news service for schools and colleges that aims to make the news relevant to the school curriculum.
Every student and teacher can access (in college and also from home) the daily stories and search The Day's extensive archive of articles by visiting www.theday.co.uk and using the following log-in details:

Why should you use THE DAY?

→ The Day is a great resource for all subjects with 1,500 articles in the archive for you to use either as PDFs or from an Interactive Whiteboard. You can find articles using the Subject Index on the homepage or searching by keyword. The articles can engage students at the start of a lesson right across the curriculum and used as a topical daily resource to stimulate discussion and enquiry in form time, teaching citizenship, PSHE & Critical Thinking.

→ The Day can help students to prepare for interviews for entry into employment or higher education. It will get them discussing current affairs with their peers and teachers around the world. They can also use the articles for extra-curricular activities like debating and student journalism.
→ The Day provide stimulating resources and extra activities for gifted and talented students.
 

● Philip Allan Magazines - the No 1 magazine for A-level students. These printed titles of Philip Allan magazines are available at the Library:
